Free Comic Book Day!

I got up early (ON A SATURDAY) to get to my comic shop before it opened, so I had a better chance at getting all the comics I wanted. The only one I really wanted was the Marvel Infinity by Hickman and Cheung. My collector mentality side took over and needed for the sake of keeping my Hickmen Avengers run complete. Also, a free comic by two of the biggest creators at Marvel? Yes please.

Pictured below are the rest of the titles I got. Pretty much the ones you’d expect. Really happy that  I got Atomic Robo for free this year, as previous years I’ve  had to pay 99p for it (which I hate doing ‘cause it kind of defeats the point).

And then  we went from Liverpool to Manchester, because that seemed like a good idea when my brother suggested it, to go to a comic book fair (which is basically a stuffy room full of long boxes with back issues and smelly people). I was looking for Young Avengers Presents: Hawkeye, but I couldn’t find it, which made me a little sad. I only found out a few months ago (via tumblr, funnily enough) that Fraction wrote a one shot featuring the Hawkeyes a few years ago. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it on ebay.

I did get something I didn’t plan on buying though: Warren Ellis’s New Universal mini in hardcover. I’ve been curious to read it, with Hickman using a lot of stuff from it in his current Avengers run, so when I saw it I decided to go for it. Warren Ellis impulse buy. I also picked up I Am An Avenger #2 purely for the Greg Rucka and Michael Lark short,  Who Won’t Wield the Shield which is a parody comic that was released when Steve Rogers returned and Young Avengers Presents: Hulkling, to help me get over my lack of Hawkeye.

And then, of course, this weeks comics.

This marks the last of my spending for a while. Because money is going to be tight over the next few months. But at least I’ll have plenty of stuff to read when I’m too broke to go out.

The Comic Anvil Volume 2 Episode 2 is up.

So, we recorded this Saturday, but the thing is - it didn’t actually record.

Which was a bummer.

So this is the second take. The first take is lost forever to the interwebs.

Lots of love from me to Hawkeye. You’ll hear how hard it is for me to express in words how much I love the frickin comic.

Here it is.

The Comic Anvil is back!

That’s right, ANOTHER podcast show about comics.

You can listen to the show here along with some of the older stuff.

It’s a little rough. Feedback is welcome.
(Though if it’s negative and I don’t agree with it, it’ll most likely be ignored)

It’s a good week for comics.
Not only are the latest issues of FF and Young Avengers out, there’s also Guardians of the Galaxy 1. I wasn’t that excited for the new Guardians series until I read the 0.1 issue. After that, I was in.

And then there’s the fifth issue of Planetoid, that I’ve been waiting FORVER for. It’s a really good science fiction series from Image and well worth your time. Also from Image there’s Fatale, which is one of my favourite books right now. The art is beautiful and I love how they keep building on the story.

And to top it off, there’s the new BPRD title from Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba, the creators of Daytripper and the art team behind Fractions Casanova. I’ve not read much Hellboy or BPRD stuff before, so this should be interesting.

I’m selling some comics on ebay.

The only reason I’m mentioning it on here is because I’ve had some of them listed for a while and cant seem to get rid of them

I’m only shipping within the UK.

The Chitauri appeared in Nova #3. THE CHITAURI ARE IN THE COMICS. AND THEY LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME.

This made me laugh hilariously from the awesomeness.

Need some help…

Comixology have a weekend sale on Marvel’s Secret Invasion, which includes the main mini-series and most of the tie-ins.

And yeah, I spent a bit of money and there and bought some comics.

I’ve read Secret Invasion before, but it was years ago. I’m just wondering, is it better to try and read it issue by issue, in the ‘correct’ reading order? (So how the issues would work in a chronological story sense) OR should I just read it as if I was reading it in trades? So like, the main Secret Invasion mini, followed by the New Avengers trades, Might Avengers etc, etc….

Inbox me or reply if you have a suggestion.

Jawaad Ahmad Khan: Walked into a comic book shop for the first time ever yesterday.

jawaadahmadkhan:

Trying to explore new types of storytelling.

I walked in and was overwhelmed…this was a real comic book shop, with the walls lined with comics, the shelves, the tables, the floors. Filled.

I’d heard Marvel’s Ultimate series was a good place to start for newbies to comics, so I went and thumbed…

More stories like this please.
